After three years of signing up for the Great Dismal Swamp tour offered by Chesterfield County, I was able to join at the last minute last week! It was cancelled because of weather for the past two years, so this time they took two vans, and two naturalists for the 14 of us on the tour! We had a wonderful day.
We spent most of the time in the vans driving slowly thru the swamp, but we were able to get out and walk for part of the trip. There’s an excellent ranger station with small gift shop at the extrance to the refuge. They have an birding festival coming up the second weekend of May – if you’re in the area I’m sure you would enjoy a visit.
