Saturday I had the opportunity to do a Spring Drive thru Charlottesville and Scottsville with my parents. I love driving them around – we always see interesting places and people!
On this jaunt, we started at the new visitors center at Monticello. It has a very well done museum and multipart video display. The giftshop is awesome, tho pricey and they have a movie that we didn’t see this trip. The bus up to Monticello itself stops right at the center and parking is plentiful. And the flowers and dogwoods were lovely!
Next we drove around town and enjoyed one of the most beautiful Spring cities in Virginia. Charlottesville has been selling dogwood trees at a discount for years, and it shows. We missed the banks of forsythia, and were a bit early for the azaleas, but the blooming trees were everywhere.
After lunch at the Red Lobster with some of their good friends from Airstream days, we drove thru clouds of redbud to the charming town of Scottsville. The street improvement effort in downtown has been completed and all wiring is now underground, with vintage streetlamps lining Valley Street, the main drag. This is where my Dad grew up, right along the James River. Very picturesque.
