North Valley Hike

In the excitement of the Ukrops 10K, I overlooked posting photos from our Chesterfield County-sponsored hike last week.  We did 4 miles along the trails of Price William Forest Park!  Still not much blooming, but we did see a rue anemone and some skunk cabbage.  There was lots of beaver evidence – saw two dams and lots of cut trees and trails to the water.  Our fearless leader, naturalist Mark Battista, said since we didn’t see any lodges, that they probably were digging tunnels into the banks of the creek.

At one point we passed a couple of Fairfax Country fellows doing benchmark checks in the creek.  They said it was looking healthy, and showed us one of the mayfly larva that they’d found.

If you’d like more info on the park, here’s a link: http://www.nps.gov/prwi/index.htm
