First Landing State Park

Five inches of rain inVirginia Beach three days before our hike flooded several of the trails.  Not to worry – there was still plenty to see and trails to hike!  This was a day trip from Richmond sponsored by Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation.  12 of us enjoyed the pleasant temperatures and sunshine as we learned about this swampy area from our nauralist leader, Mark Battista.

You may know this park as Seashore State Park – the name was changed several years ago to recognize its place in history as the site of the first landing of the English in 1607, en route to Jamestown.    If you’re in the area, or seeking an escape from central Virginia, check it out.  Info on the web at http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/fir.shtml
