Hope your Valentine’s Day is a happy, homemade, one! Cookies in the photo were made from Mrs. C.E. Webber, Jr.’s recipe in the Stuffed Cougar, page 261:
Stuffed Cougar Sugar Cookies The Stuffed Cougar 1981
2/3 c. shortening 1 egg
¾ c. sugar 4 t. milk
1 t. vanilla 1 ½ t. baking powder
2 cups sifted flour ¼ t. salt
Cream shortening, sugar, vanilla. Add egg; beat until fluffy. Stir in milk. Sift dry ingredients and blend into creamy mixture. Divide dough in half. Chill one hour.
Roll to 1/8”. (Roll only half of dough at a time; keep remainder chilled.) Cut into desired shapes and sprinkle with sugar. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375° for 6-8 minutes. Cool slightly, remove from pan. Yield: 36.
Icing: Melt teaspoon of butter. Add confectioner’s sugar and milk to desired consistency. Frost cookies once cooled.
