Saving Spring

Every year Spring goes so quickly – all the buoyant beauty and exuberant color gone after a month or so.  Several years ago I tried to capture its essence with pressed flowers, which quickly became only faded reflections of a memory.  This season I’m taking another whack at it, thru sketching.  We’ll see if the extended focus required for drawing keeps the visions fresh in my spirit.

The added bonus – I have a flower journal!  Actually, two – one for sketches, and one for inked versions of them.  For the latter I used Collage Podge  on gesso-painted canvas for the covers, and water colored/stamped paper for the pages.  Working well so far!

Now to work on buttercups. As we toured Maymont last week, daughter Julia’s question to grandaughter Lily: do you love butter?!
